CONCERTS

Out in support of their new hit album X and Y, Gwyneth Paltrow’s favorite band sports a strong video component on its Twisted Logic tour, with Bryan Leitch serving as show director and Nick Whitehouse as lighting designer. Vendors include PRG and Radical Light.

THEATRE
Blue Man Group Toronto
The latest edition of the ever-expanding Blue Man universe opened north of the border in Toronto last June, with its veteran design team of Marc Janowitz and Mark Brickman (lights), Carl Glaab (video) and Ross Humphrey (sound).

End of Cinematics
Premiering at the Krannert Center in Illinois prior to a world tour, Mikel Rouse’s The End of Cinematics examines the 21st-century phenomenon of viewing media content in fragmented form, by presenting original film footage manipulated through computer generated imaging to provide video backdrops or stage sets for live performers. The performers and backdrops are then captured live on video and montaged onto a front-projected scrim, creating a live, 3D film right before our eyes. Technical Director Tom Korder explains how it all works; vendors include Digital Projection, Nexo, and Dataton.

TECHNOLOGY
The Cable Guys
A look at the oft-ignored but vitally important area of cabling for lighting and sound. Vendors include Gepco, Link, TMB, Lex Products, and Coast Wire.

SRO IN ED
Size Doesn't Matter
A look at how small rental and staging companies compete with the big boys.

ON LIGHTING
Greg Cohen discusses the secrets of being a good client.

ON SOUND
